In 2021, SJC launched its Giuseppina Gagliano Family Wellness Grant to support an organization that is helping Canadian youth to know the strength and security that comes from a safe and happy family life. One in which basic needs are met and equal opportunities are provided to thrive, learn, grow, and feel respected and loved. This commitment was shown by our inaugural recipient, the First Nations Child & Family Caring Society of Canada and our 2022, the George Hull Centre for Children & Families.Every year, on International Women's Day (IWD), we announce our recipient.
This IWD, we are pleased to announce the recipient of our Family Wellness Grant is the SMILE Foundation.
Founded in 2011, SMILE (single mothers inspiring leadership in education) is a registered Canadian non-profit organization that helps low-income, single mothers improve their lives through education in the Greater Toronto Area and abroad.
"Since the launch of SMILE, our programs have impacted over 1500+ low-income single mothers and their children, with the majority being those who identify with Black," said Karen Brown, Director and Founding President of the SMILE Foundation. "The Giuseppina Gagliano Family Wellness Grant will provide SMILE with the opportunity to enhance programs and services to low-income single mothers. The ad space selected will allow us to reach potential participants of 600, but also donors and partners to aid in strengthening our fundraising goal of $50,000."
As a recipient of the Giuseppina Gagliano Family Wellness Grant, the SMILE Foundation receives a monetary donation and 2 full-page ads in any SJC Media magazines of choice to spread awareness about its meaningful work.
