SJC Media Wins Multiple Accolades at 2019 Magazine Awards

Highlights include Best Editor, Best Publisher and a collection of gold awards recognizing the best in consumer, digital and B2B publications.

Last week, the National Media Awards Foundation handed out its awards recognizing the best in magazines, journalism and compelling storytelling across print and digital. We are thrilled to share SJC Media’s distinction with top honours at each of the three awards presentations:

  • At the National Magazine Awards: B2B on May 28, Pivot earned six gold awards, including Best Magazine. Pivot is published by CPA Canada in partnership with our Strategic Content Labs (SCL). You can read our joint release with CPA Canada here.
  • At the Digital Publishing Awards on May 29, Maclean’s took home the gold for general excellence in its category (medium-sized publication).
  • At the National Magazine Awards (NMAs) on May 31, two of our titles were the top-winning publications. Maclean’s won four golds and Toronto Life (the most nominated magazine at the Awards) earned three golds and two silvers. Title Magazine won the gold in Features Writing, Toronto Life Stylebook earned a silver and our Chatelaine, FASHION Magazine and Today’s Parent earned honourable mentions.

Included in our NMA wins were two of the night’s most prestigious awards. Our Maclean’s editor Alison Uncles won the Editor Grand Prix, awarded to a senior-level editor who has demonstrated a high degree of excellence and had an outstanding impact on their magazine, and our Ken Hunt won the inaugural Publisher Grand Prix for Toronto Life. As stated by the jury: if you live in Toronto, you know Toronto Life, and as Toronto is growing, Toronto Life is growing with it.

“Congratulations to Ken and Alison, to each of their teams, and to all of our talented writers, designers, editors, art directors and artists who are behind each of our awards and nominations,” said Tony Gagliano, Executive Chairman & CEO of SJC. “These awards honouring the best of the best in B2B, digital and consumer publishing are proof of our commitment, talent and passion when it comes to Canadian journalism and storytelling.”
