Today’s Parent Reveals its 2019 Toy Guide

Tested by editors and children alike, the annual top toy list is a parent’s go-to holiday shopping resource.

TORONTO, ON) November 1, 2019 –  Today’s Parent, the No. 1 parenting magazine brand in Canada, unveils today its list of the best toys of 2019, as rated by Today’s Parent editors and real children. Divided into four age categories from Baby to Big Kids, the round-up of 101 toys includes hand-crafted wooden toys, tech-enabled gadgets, and everything in between.

“We’re so excited to be releasing the Today’s Parent 2019 Toy Guide. Our editors spend 10 months of the year on this project in order to be able to provide parents with a valuable resource that simplifies holiday shopping,” says Kim Shiffman, editor-in-chief of Today’s Parent. “At a time of year when parents are receiving dozens of toy catalogues from retailers, the Today’s Parent Toy Guide is not just a round-up of what’s new. It’s what’s new and well-rated by our discerning toy editors and dozens of real kids.”

After their kids spent weeks with the toys, parents of toy testing families were asked to complete a survey, revealing things like whether the toy was fun, whether it seemed safe, whether their child came back to it again and again and if the age on the box seemed appropriate. Toys from both massive global companies and smaller independent toy makers were considered, with only the top-ranked picks included in the guide.

“Readers sometimes notice that our Toy Guide doesn’t include one of the ‘hot’ toys of the season, but that’s often because, despite its popularity, it didn’t quite measure up when we had kids actually play with it,” says Simone Olivero, senior toy editor at Today’s Parent.

The Today’s Parent 2019 Toy Guide is available in the November-December issue of Today’s Parent – on newsstands now – and at todaysparent.com/toys.
