On October 30, Maclean’s Ideas Summit brought together Canada’s top minds to dive into the transformative power of AI. Held at the University of Toronto’s Schwartz Reisman Innovation Campus and presented by Google, the event explored how AI could revolutionize education, the workforce and Canadian society.
Moderated by Maclean’s publisher Jason Maghanoy, panelists from Canada Learning Code, the Vector Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Google Canada highlighted AI’s immense potential while acknowledging the ethical and practical challenges it presents.
The hour-long discussion highlighted the crucial role of human oversight and ethical frameworks in ensuring the responsible development and deployment of AI.
Panelists also predicted that AI will soon automate routine tasks such as scheduling, freeing up workers to focus on more creative and strategic work. They emphasized that a basic understanding of coding, data analytics and AI will become essential for job seekers in the future.
