SJC is delighted to celebrate the young leaders of tomorrow by announcing the recipients of the 2024 Gaetano Gagliano Scholarship Fund (GGSF), now in its 19th year.

The goal of the GGSF is to support and encourage children of our full-time associates who are pursuing further educational studies and who strive for excellence. By recognizing those with an extraordinary commitment to their studies, school spirit and the communities in which they live, the GGSF also celebrates the characteristics of our founder, Gaetano Gagliano. Each recipient receives a monetary scholarship to help with their school year ahead.

Meet this year's inspiring recipients:

Brittany Keller

University of Edinburgh | Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine & Surgery
Daughter of Dave Keller, SJC Content

"Once I finish my program and pass the licensing exam, I will be able to practice veterinary medicine here in Canada. Being a veterinarian will help the members of the community as there has been a nation-wide shortage of veterinarians. Even though I am just one person, if I can provide medical care to just one town’s worth of clients, then I would find this valuable."

Stephanie Li

University of Waterloo | Bachelors of Applied Science (BASc) in Chemical Engineering
Daughter of Yong (Leon) Li, SJC Print

"The exposure I had to air quality research in Canada was eye-opening, especially seeing the lacking quality of our air quality, and it strengthened my desire for climate advocacy in Canada. Throughout my co-op term, I gained invaluable experience in laboratory skills and also important insight into the air quality in Canada, which would help me to live more consciously in my daily life."

Elijah Robert Marche

University of British Columbia | Film Production
Son of Sarah Fulford, SJC Media

"Making films is a creative process but it has also taught me many practical skills about planning, time management, storytelling, budgeting, working with others and problem solving. Film making also provides me with a sense of pride and accomplishment. My films have been featured in several film festivals. In 2023, I made a film titled “Still” about a Jewish teenager’s reaction to being assaulted. The film has been licensed by the global non-profit organization Facing History and Ourselves as a teaching tool to start conversations about antisemitism."

Congratulations to Brittany, Stephanie and Elijah and thank you to all the remarkable students who applied. It was an honour to get to know our leaders of tomorrow.
