We're proud to announce Baby Love Beginnings as the 2025 recipient of the Giuseppina Gagliano Family Wellness Grant! Highlighting their efforts to support and lift up women and families is particularly meaningful on International Women's Day. This annual grant, honouring SJC's matriarch, empowers Canadian charities that make a profound difference in the lives of children and families. Each year, one selected charity receives a $2,000 donation and two advertising pages in SJC Media publications to raise awareness about their cause.
Changing lives, one diaper at a time
Baby Love Beginnings, founded by two mothers, is committed to providing every baby with the diapers and critical essentials they deserve, supporting the health and well-being of low-income families in Toronto. By removing barriers to diapers and wipes, they promote infant physical health, support positive parental mental health, enable access to childcare and free up families to reinvest their limited funds in other essentials like food and housing. Since launching in 2022, they've delivered over 1.25 million diapers to over 7,000 families in Toronto.
“Diaper need is an invisible crisis with devastating consequences” says Julia Miller Black, co-founder of Baby Love Beginnings. "Most childcare programs require parents to supply their own diapers, and when they can’t, they are forced to miss work or school. This fuels a cycle of financial instability, making it even harder for families to break free from poverty. Many donors don’t initially realize how deeply diaper need impacts a family’s ability to thrive, but we’ve found that highlighting this specific consequence resonates powerfully with individuals and corporations, turning awareness into action.”
Diapers represent a significant household expense for families with young children—ranking fourth after housing, food, and utilities. In Toronto, more than one in five families struggle to afford diapers, and for low-income families without bulk-buying options, these essentials are even more expensive. With diaper prices surging over 20% in the last two years, they're becoming increasingly inaccessible for many.

For 2025, Baby Love Beginnings aims to achieve a significant milestone: delivering one million diapers, onboarding new partners, and reaching thousands of additional families. This ambitious goal reflects their steadfast commitment to ensuring every baby has the essentials to thrive.
